Over 60,000 hectares of keeri samba to be cultivated in Yala season

The Agrarian Development Department said that 61,075 hectares of Keeri Samba rice has been cultivated in this year’s Yala season.

The Agrarian Development Department emphasised these points at a discussion held by Agriculture and Plantation Industries Minister Mahinda Amaraweera on Monday (22) to investigate the progress of paddy cultivation in the Yala season.

There has been a shortage of Keeri Samba rice in the country in the past few days. Because of this, the government even decided to import a substitute variety of rice. Taking this matter into consideration, the Agriculture Department has planned to grow Keeri Samba paddy in more paddy lands this year and Minister Amaraweera instructed the officials to take measures for this.
