Paddy seller assaulted after lift, but saves cash

Manampitiya Police said that a driver of a lorry from Dimbulagala had lodged a complaint that his lorry was stolen by a man near the Iddapichcha tank after assaulting him.

According to the complaint by the 44-year-old driver, he was coming back  to his home in Dimbulagala from Polonnaruwa after selling a stock of paddy. He had around one million rupees in his possession earned from selling paddy.

While returning home from Polonnaruwa, he had given a lift to an unknown man. This man had assaulted the driver near the Iddapichcha tank and had fled with the lorry. However, the driver had been able to throw the bag with the money towards the tank without the unknown man detecting it. Thus he had been able to save money, Police said. Manampitiya police is conducting investigations.
