Pan Asia Bank provides boost for ‘Dear Father’ programme

Pan Asia Bank has come forward to provide a boost for the ‘Dear Father’ programme, a national level initiative to empower fathers in Sri Lanka against the emerging ‘fatherlessness’ (non-involvement of fathers) in society to help fathers effectively integrate into the family fabric, organised by The Rotary Club of Colombo Uptown, Women’s International Foundation and Department of Samurdhi Development. This was revealed at a media briefing held at Colombo recently.

The programme promotes and facilitates the active participation of fathers while highlighting their crucial role in championing women’s holistic empowerment and accelerating their progress. Pan Asia Bank Assistant General Manager Deposit Mobilization Buddhika Perera said; “As a truly Sri Lankan Bank, Pan Asia is committed to uplift Sri Lankan lives beyond banking. We believe financial literacy is one key aspect of any successful society and we happily accept the invitation to take part in this, since we have expertise in building financial literacy among people. As a step we are proud to take part in creating Change Agents among Samurdhi Network who will make a further impact on society.”

The ‘Dear Father’ programme encourages fathers to be equitable, responsive and non-violent. It highlights their role as active caretakers, partners in household responsibilities and advocates for women’s and children’s rights. The campaign is built upon three pillars; educate, engage and empower, with the purpose of mobilizing fathers as allies in the empowerment movement.

Founder and Chair of the Women’s International Foundation (WIF) Seroshi Nandasiri said; “We are celebrating International Women’s Day with a focus on fathers, we hope to inspire meaningful conversations and actions that contribute to a more gender equitable world, where women can accelerate their progress by breaking barriers and effectively navigating cliffs.

This programme is an investment in women to accelerate their progress.” During the education phase, more than five hundred change agents from the Samurdhi Department network in the Colombo area were trained and five thousand fathers within the same district will be educated during the next phase of the programme, which begins in early April 2024.
