Paris Club lauds Lanka’s debt restructuring progress

Japan reaffirmed priory to assist SL
AIIB confirms support to overcome economic crisis
State Minister Semasinghe with Paris Club Secretariat Co-Chair William Roos.

State Minister of Finance Shehan Semasinghe had bilateral meetings while the Spring Meeting was taking place. He discussed with Paris Club Secretariat Co-Chair William Roos. Semasinghe has explained the progress made thus far on the debt restructuring process of Sri Lanka.

The State Minister thanked the Paris Club for its important role played in the process. The Co-Chair has hereby appreciated Sri Lanka’s debt restructuring progress. JICA’s commitment to supporting Sri Lanka’s economic recovery was reiterated by South Asia Senior VP Imoto Sachiko when the state minister had a discussion with her in Washington DC.

She has informed the state minister that JICA eagerly awaits to resume the Japan-funded development projects in Sri Lanka.

State Minister Semasinghe has met with Japan International Affairs Deputy Vice Minister Kentaro Ogata where the Deputy Vice minister recalled the long history of friendship between Sri Lanka and Japan and he has reaffirmed Japan’s priority to assist Sri Lanka in the debt negotiation process. A meeting also took place between the State Minister and Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank President Jin Liqun. Here, they have discussed how AIIB & Sri Lanka could work together closely in financing sustainable infrastructure development and the AIIB President has assured that AIIB will support Sri Lanka to overcome the crisis.

State Minister and Brazilian Finance Deputy Minister Tatiana Rosito discussed Sri Lanka’s progress in implementing economic reforms and debt negotiations in a meeting on April 15. The Deputy Minister expressed Brazil’s utmost support for Sri Lanka’s rapid recovery.

Semasinghe tweeting in his account states that “After a significant week, the IMF and World Bank spring meeting has ended. It has created a platform to engage with global leaders to discuss Sri Lanka’s priorities and it explored opportunities for collaboration to further the progress we have made towards economic recovery and sustainability.”
