Parts of a lighter found inside a fish bun in Panadura

Parts of a lighter have been discovered inside a fish bun that has been purchased from a famous bakery in Panadura.

Panadura Municipal Commissioner Manel Siyambalagoda said that during the inspection conducted by the Public Health Inspector (PHI) and a team regarding the complaint made on this incident, several other offences were taken to be prosecuted.

The investigation has been initiated following a complaint made by Manjula Perera, a resident of the Arukgoda area in Panadura who has purchased two fish buns from the bakery for his two sons where metal parts of a lighter was found inside the fish bun that his youngest son had eaten on Wednesday (8).

A team including PHI R.P.A. Sandaruwan accompanied the complainant and conducted an inspection and the PHI said that the bakery was inspected for the remaining parts of the metal part of the lighter that was said to have been inside the fish bun, but no such part was found. The Health Division stated that since the complainant failed to produce a bill to prove that he had purchased the fish buns from the bakery and since the hotel owner apologised to the complainant, the two parties agreed that no further legal action was necessary.

However, the bakery is under close observation by the PHI and legal action will be taken for the presence of ants in the sugar concentrate used to flavour the food, a brush used for painting that has been used to apply the flavouring, unhygienic condition at the place and irregularity.

The bakery owner has signed a bond to be produced before the Panadura Magistrate’s Court.
