Cabinet Spokesman and Mass Media Minister Dr. Bandula Gunawardhana yesterday said that if all those who have to pay VAT make those payments properly, the percentage of VAT paid can be reduced.
The Minister stated this while speaking at the Cabinet media briefing held at the Government Information Department yesterday. He said that if the VAT payments are done properly, the revenue will increase and as a result, the VAT percentage can be reduced.
Therefore, the Minister said that everyone who has to pay VAT should contribute to the payment of VAT. The Minister said that the Inland Revenue Department could reduce the VAT percentage by increasing the number of those who should to pay VAT, and if a business person not paying VAT collects VAT from customers, the Inland Revenue Department will start a system of notifying the relevant information immediately and take legal action in this regard.
