Lak Vanitha Peramuna President and UNP organizer for Hewaheta Shanthini Kongahage yesterday said that the people are preparing to celebrate the Sinhala and Tamil New Year more enthusiastically this year compared to 2022 and 2023, as the President has succeeded in managing the economy well.
She was speaking at a press conference held at UNP Headquarters Sirikotha yesterday (10).
Kongahage said that the President visited the North and East last week to address the issues faced by the youth, women, and farming communities.
It should be mentioned that as a graduate, the President has a better understanding of the problems of these university graduates. Also, it should be stated that the youth are delighted with the opportunity given to them to study at the Faculty of Medicine of Kotelawala Defence University.
She said that former President Ranasinghe Premadasa, along with a young politician Ranil Wickremesinghe, took steps to help the youth move the country forward. However, Sajith Premadasa is doing the opposite of what his father did. “Today, the people who tried to destroy the United National Party have teamed up with Sajith Premadasa and sidelined the UNP followers. People like Nalaka Godahewa, who worked to destroy Gotabaya Rajapaksa, are now teaming up with Sajith Premadasa,” she said.
She added that Sajith Premadasa attempted to make Dullas Alahapperuma the President and move forward as Prime Minister under him. However, a person with knowledge of the country or the country’s economy would not come up with such an idea.
The President has taken steps to compensate the families whom the Janata Vimukthi Peramuna displaced during the ’88-’89 period, Kongahage said.
