People’s Bank donates Rs. 1 Mn. to ‘Feed A Child’ project

People’s Bank Chairman Sujeewa Rajapakse presents a cheque to Derana Media Network Vice Chairman Laksiri Wickramage.

Intending to provide nutritious meals to undernourished children under the age of five years, People’s Bank donated Rs. 1 million towards the ‘Feed A Child’ project, which was jointly launched by the Sri Lanka College of Paediatricians and Manusath Derana charitable organization.

With the ongoing economic crisis, the ‘Feed A Child’ programme has taken measures to identify malnourished children and provide them with nutritional supplies worth Rs. 6,000 once every two weeks for six months.

Family health offices select children in districts through family health service officers, and arrangements have been made to provide these nutritional supplies once every two weeks under the supervision and recommendations of paediatric specialists.

For six months, the nutritional status of these children will be monitored by the relevant doctors and officials. This programme has already been implemented in the districts of Nuwara Eliya, Monaragala and Ratnapura.

General public contributions towards this cause are greatly encouraged and appreciated, and for those interested in donating, established a Manusath Derana account at the People’s Bank Suduwella branch (Acc No. 143-1001-7-9900000), which directly contributes to the ‘Feed A Child’ programme.
