Person held at BIA over attempt to smuggle live fish and turtles

Sri Lanka Customs has arrested a passenger at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) along with 365 live ornamental fish and turtles.

The Suspect has brought the stock of live marine species from Singapore without declaring to the Sri Lanka Customs.

The suspect has been identified as a 50-year-old businessman residing in the Thalawathugoda area.

The Sri Lanka Customs said that, live animals include Asian Arowana, Cycad, Catfish and turtles.

Further investigations regarding the incident are being conducted.
