The Sri Lanka Mobile Phone Dealers Association (SLMPDA) highlighted that the benefit of Sri Lankan rupee appreciation against the dollar will be given to local consumers and accordingly the current high prices of all varieties of mobile phones could be reduced to a greater extent.
Speaking further Senarath said this price reduction will also affect even small phone users and accordingly they could purchase an earlier Rs. 10,000 valued phones for Rs. 7,000. When interviewed a mobile phone dealer in Bambalapitiya Kumar Samarajeewa said there was a drastic reduction of mobile phone sales during the last few months due to their high cost and said the rupee appreciation will help not only mobile phone dealers but also consumers.
