National People’s Power (NPP) MP Dr. Harini Amarasuriya yesterday said since Dinesh Gunawardena who was serving as the Prime Minister has resigned, President Anura Kumara Dissanayake will appoint a new Prime Minister as soon as possible.
She further said that after appointing the Prime Minister, the President will appoint a limited Cabinet.
MP Amarasuriya said this while speaking to the media after the swearing-in of President Anura Kumara Dissanayake at the Presidential Secretariat yesterday (23).
MP Amarasuriya said that so far the NPP has not decided on who should be appointed as Prime Minister.
Amarasuriya further said that the NPP has received a mandate from the people during a time when the country is facing a crisis and the programmes and activities to get the country out of the crisis must commence from tomorrow itself.
