It is reported that paddy stocks worth over Rs. 100 million in five warehouses of the Paddy Marketing Board (PMB) have gone missing.
These paddy stocks have been purchased in 2020 and 2021 seasons.
It is said that this theft has taken place in five paddy warehouses in the Kurunegala district including Polgahawela, Anamaduwa, Nikaweratiya and Mahawa. Around 800,000 kilos of paddy have gone missing and in this regard, a group of internal employees of the PMB have complained to Agriculture and Plantation Industries Minister Mahinda Amaraweera.
A senior official of the Ministry said that the Ministry has received information that several people in the main office of the PMB and the relevant provincial offices are involved in this scam.
Also, Minister Amaraweera has ordered PMB Chairman Buddhika Iddamalgoda to provide a complete report regarding the disappearance of this stock of paddy within three days. Minister Amaraweera emphasized that as soon as the relevant report is received, the information is expected to be handed over to the CID for a full investigation.
