Police announce special traffic plan for Colombo Marathon

The Sri Lanka Police will implement a special traffic plan in Colombo on Sunday (13) for the “Colombo Marathon 2026” international marathon, with traffic restrictions to be imposed along several roads from 6 a.m.

According to the Police Media Division, the marathon will commence at 6 a.m. from the National Sports Authority (NSA) premises and proceed towards Galle Face via Kollupitiya and Marine Drive.

Traffic restrictions will be imposed from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m. on roads along the marathon route, and motorists have been advised to follow instructions given by traffic police officers.

Police said vehicles travelling towards Colombo along Marine Drive will be diverted at the Kollupitiya Junction and directed through an alternative route.

Motorists travelling towards Colombo from the Dehiwala, Mount Lavinia and other areas have also been advised to use alternative routes, including the roads through M.O.D. Junction, Kompannavidiya, Welikada and Borella.

Police further requested motorists and the public to cooperate with officers deployed for traffic control during the event.

Approximately 175 to 177 motorcycles will be deployed to provide security and traffic control during the marathon. (Newswire)
