Police foil alleged plot to kill 4 in Kosgoda; 2 suspects held

Police have arrested two suspects and recovered firearms, ammunition and a hand grenade following a raid on a house in Akadegoda, Kosgoda, where a group was allegedly preparing to kill four people.

According to Police, officers from the Walana Anti-Corruption Unit raided the house on October 3 after receiving information about the alleged murder plot.

Police said one suspect opened fire at officers during the raid, prompting officers to return fire. The suspect was injured and admitted to the Balapitiya Hospital.

Another suspect at the house was arrested, while a third suspect fled the scene.

During a search of the house, Police recovered a 9mm pistol with a magazine containing eight rounds, a revolver with six rounds, another 9mm magazine with six rounds and a foreign-made hand grenade.

Police also seized a motorcycle fitted with fake number plates, which investigators suspect had been prepared for use in a crime, and a three-wheeler.

The arrested suspects, aged 32 and 33, are residents of the Maha Induruwa area.

The suspect in custody and the seized items have been handed over to the Kosgoda Police.

Kosgoda Police and the Walana Anti-Corruption Unit are conducting further investigations, including efforts to apprehend the suspect who escaped. (Newswire)
