Eragama Police arrested two people on Sunday (27) on suspicion of assaulting a Police officer who was on sick leave and robbing him of two gold necklaces in a musical show.
Two residents of Ampara Deeghawapi, aged 43 and 25 have been arrested.
The assaulted Police officer is a Constable attached to the Kurunduwatta Police station, and he is a resident of Ampara, Udayapura.
This 25-year-old officer has been home on leave due to measles and on the last Friday (25), he went to see the musical show held at the stadium near Maninkamaduwa, roofing tile factory.
The Police say that there was an argument between the two suspects and the Police Constable. The Police Constable has complained to the Eragama Police that the two suspects robbed his two gold necklaces.
The two arrested suspects told the Police on interrogation that they did not steal any gold necklaces and that the Police officer had made a false complaint. A senior Police officer said that further investigation is going on in this regard.
