Valachchenai Police have initiated an investigation into a stolen container worth Rs.700,000 from an empty land near the sea in Kuburumulla, Valachchenai belonging to an Australian who has Sri Lankan citizenship.
The 46-year-old Australian residing at Christian Church Road, Galle complained to the Police about the theft last Tuesday.
The container was purchased by the Australian and housed in the land two years ago with the hopes of starting a business. Police also said that a Court case was also heard regarding the ownership of the land which has been settled now.
An exact date on which the container was stolen has not been confirmed yet. The complainant has said that the container was there on April 21. Therefore, Police said the container must have been stolen after April 21.
Police said that in order to steal the container, a boom truck or other heavy lifting machine and a lorry to carry the container are definitely needed.
“Police plan to track the thieves through the information of the vehicles,” a Police Officer said.
