The Cinnamon Garden Police yesterday informed the Colombo Chief Magistrate Prasanna Alwis that an investigation will be conducted on the Leader of the National People’s Power (NPP) MP Anura Kumara Dissanayake and several other political activists of the party for organizing an illegal protest and rally violating the court order and provoking the public.
This in connection with the NPP’s political rally and the protest march which was held on February 26 in Colombo, following which a participant of the protest who is an NPP candidate for the upcoming Local Government election also died after being admitted to the Colombo National Hospital. It had been organized to force the government to conduct the Local Government polls without delay in order to ensure the democratic rights of the public. The other individuals against whom this investigation will be held are the activists of the party, former Parliamentarians Lal Kantha, Tilvin Silva and Wasantha Samarasinghe.
