A Police Constable (PC) in the narcotics division of the Negombo Criminal Investigation Division, currently attending a course at the Kurunegala Police Training Unit, has received phone threats from an underworld criminal resident in Dubai.
On Friday (27), he had received a call from a foreign number, with the caller threatening to kill his child and wife.
The PC has filed complaint with the Kurunegala Police in this regard.
It is believed that the person who threatened this officer is Dagonne Kiriya, an underworld criminal involved in drug trafficking. Some of the associates of this criminal, allegedly involved in several murders, were recently arrested by the Police, on information provided by this officer.
Those involved in the drug trade resident in Dubai, have been making threatening phone calls to the police officers, from Dubai.
There are Police officers who have left the country due to threats from the underworld, while a Police officer of the Police Special Task Force (STF) has retired and is currently living with his wife and children in a STF camp due to threats, Police information revealed.
