Polonnaruwa fires destroy about 3,000 acres

Polonnaruwa District Disaster Management Center Assistant Director Ranjith Alahakoon said that about 3,000 acres of forest reserves in Polonnaruwa have been destroyed by fire.

He said that the forest reserves in the areas of Habarana, Gal-oya, Medirigiriya, Kaudulla,Hingurakgoda, Lankapura and Welikanda have been destroyed by the fire.

Hunters are also destroying the reserved forest to hunt wild animals.

He said it is the responsibility of villagers to give tips to the security officers to nab poachers who hunt animals.
