President Ranil Wickremesinghe in a Poson Poya Day message yesterday said arrival of Arahant Mahinda Thera paved the way for a self sufficient economy in the country.
“The Poson Full Moon Poya Day holds great significance for Sri Lankan Buddhists, as it commemorates the establishment of Sri Lankan national culture”, the President said. Excerpts from the message: The religious dialogue and the political socio-cultural dialogue that led to a self-sufficient economy, especially on the tank, field, and dagaba, were born with the arrival of Arahant Mahinda Thera on Poson Full Moon Poya Day.
Arahant Mahinda Thera is also known as the visionary of the nation who demonstrated the righteous path of the world.
It is imperative that we heed the advice of Arahant Mahinda Thera and follow the teachings of the Chulla Hatthi Padopama Sutra in order to guide the government towards unity and progress through local food production, setting aside any disparities and ideological conflicts.
I urge all to assist Sri Lanka’s journey towards becoming a developed nation by addressing the political, social, and economic challenges it currently faces, while adhering to the teachings of Arahant Mahinda Thera. I wish you all a blessed Poson while ensuring the proper fulfillment of the responsibility bestowed by the Constitution to safeguard and foster Buddhism.
