Postal workers ready to distribute poll cards from September 3 – PMG

The Election Commission stated that arrangements have been made to handover the official polling cards for the 2024 Presidential election to the Postal Department on September 2 for distribution.

The Deputy Postmaster General Rajitha K.Ranasinghe said the postal network consisting of all 22,000 postal employees is ready to distribute the official polling cards from September 3 to September 14 after accepting the 2024 Presidential election polling cards from the Election Commission on September 2.

The sealed packets containing the polling cards will be accepted to the Postal Department under the supervision of the officer in charge for supervising the regional post offices at District level, Ranasinghe said.

All the 22,000 postal employees including Post Masters, senior officials, postal staff and junior employees will be involved in distributing the polling cards while engaging in their daily postal duties during this period with 8,000 mail distributing staff and 4,000 officials kept ready for this purpose.

A total of 653 post offices, 3,335 sub post offices and 2,102 mail distribution offices across the country are ready to distribute the polling cards during the period, he said.

The fleet of 200 vehicles of the Postal Department will be used based on necessity for distribution of the polling cards and vehicles may be hired from outside if the need arises for this purpose, the Deputy Postmaster General added.
