The Education Ministry urged the school Principals to postpone sports meets and other outdoor activities in view of the prevailing high temperatures since it has been observed that many schools have organised inter-house sports meets and other outdoor events regardless of the prevailing hot weather conditions across the island.
Accordingly, the Education Ministry has advised school principals to postpone the relevant activities until April 24 until the third phase of the first school term which has been scheduled to commence on April 24.
Besides, the Ministry advised the principals to pay special attention to the health of the students, owing to the prevailing hot weather conditions.
The school principals will be informed in this regard through a circular on organising inter-house sports meets and any other sports events of their respective schools. With the circular, the principals are advised to organise such events after the Sinhala and Tamil New Year holidays. Since the first school term will continue even after the New Year holidays, it is possible to hold sports meets and other outdoor sporting events during that period.
