At present, the TEJC mango variety is produced in our country, which is popular in our country and also in the foreign market. But it is being affected due to the unlimited and informal cultivation of the TEJC mango variety.
Due to maintaining the TEJC mango variety as a general cultivation and taking steps to grow those mango plants for domestic consumption in large numbers, the right way to grow those mangoes is being lost from the farmers. It appears that the mangoes currently sold in the market are not cultivated to the proper standard. For example, there is no bright yellow color on the surface of the mango and the surface of the mango looks black colored moldy.
Although this situation is not a problem for consumption, proper standards have to be followed in export.
The Minister of Agriculture and Plantation Industry, Mr. Mahinda Amaraweera said that due to this, due to the availability of this variety of mangoes, there will be a situation where it will not be able to be sold in the near future.
Taking this situation into consideration, the Minister instructed the Department of Agriculture to prepare an expansion plan considering the further cultivation of the TEJC mango variety as an export crop.
The Minister said that at the meeting held in the Ministry of Plantation industries yesterday (02) evening.
