President declares CCIB a detention centre under Prevention of Terrorism Act

President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, in his capacity as Minister of Defence, has officially declared the Central Crime Investigation Bureau (CCIB) in Colombo as a place of detention under the Prevention of Terrorism Act (PTA).

The declaration was made through an Extraordinary Gazette notification, No. 2509/11, published on October 6, 2026.

According to the Gazette, the President exercised the powers vested in him under Section 9 of the Prevention of Terrorism (Temporary Provisions) Act, No. 48 of 1979, to designate the premises as a place of detention for the purposes of the Act.

The designated detention facility is located at the Central Crime Investigation Bureau, on the 7th floor of the Labour Secretariat Building in Colombo 05.
