President Anura Kumara Dissanayake has instructed officials to expedite diplomatic and legal measures concerning Sri Lankan national Sivarasa Anojan, who has been sentenced to death in Saudi Arabia.
A discussion on the case was held at the Presidential Secretariat on Monday (21) under the President’s patronage, focusing on steps already taken and further measures that could be pursued.
The discussion also examined possible diplomatic and legal action aimed at protecting Anojan’s life, with the President directing officials to maintain continuous engagement with the relevant Saudi Arabian authorities.
The President stressed the need for close coordination among the relevant ministries and institutions and instructed officials to pursue all available measures in connection with the case.
Deputy Speaker Rizvie Salih, Deputy Minister of Religious and Cultural Affairs Muneer Mulaffer, Western Province Governor Hanif Yusoof, Foreign Affairs Ministry Secretary Aruni Ranaraja, Defence Ministry Secretary Air Vice Marshal Sampath Thuyacontha (Retd), Attorney General Parinda Ranasinghe and other officials attended the discussion.
