President emphasizes legal reforms ahead of upcoming international AML/CFT evaluation

President Anura Kumara Dissanayake chaired a special discussion at the Presidential Secretariat today (06) to review Sri Lanka’s preparations for its third mutual evaluation on international Anti-Money Laundering and Countering the Financing of Terrorism (AML/CFT) standards.

The evaluation is scheduled to take place from October 26 to November 6. During the meeting, officials evaluated progress on implementing relevant recommendations and action plans across ministerial and institutional levels.

President Dissanayake emphasized that Sri Lanka must identify its national risks and introduce necessary legal provisions and institutional reforms, noting these measures should be viewed as essential steps for the country rather than actions driven by external pressure.

The session also addressed the operationalization of the Proceeds of Crime Act, implementation of the Companies Act and amendments to the Trusts Ordinance. Urging full commitment over the next three weeks, President Dissanayake highlighted that successfully completing the evaluation is a vital national priority to strengthen the country’s financial credibility.
