The opening of a new administrative and academic building of the National Plantation Management Institute (NPMI) will be inaugurated by the President today.
The opening ceremony of the new academic and administrative building of the Athurugiriya NPMI is to be inaugurated today (14th) by President Ranil Wickremesinghe. The Agriculture State Minister is expected to attend the event.
The President has been invited by the Agriculture and Plantation Minister, Mahinda Amaraweera, to inaugurate the building which was constructed by giving priority to the academic activities of this institution under the Agriculture and Plantation Ministry.
Rs. 550 million has been spent to build this building. Another 200 million rupees will be spent on the necessary furniture.
The Agriculture and Plantation Industries Minister, Mahinda Amaraweera, said that this institution is to be expanded into a university study institution that expands educational opportunities related to the plantation industry, and in this regard, the necessary steps will be taken in consultation with the University Grants Commission.
The Minister instructed the governing authority of the NPMI to take steps to develop this institute as a university academic institution with all the existing facilities.
Last Friday (10), the Minister inspected its premises.
