The government’s group meeting was held yesterday (26) evening under the headship of President Ranil Wickremesinghe and the Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena. Sources said that President Wickremesinghe and Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena extended their gratitude for all the MPs who attended the meeting.
During the meeting, a request was made from all the MPs to attend parliament today (27) for the debate on the proclamation of state of emergency.
“During the meeting, both the President and the Prime Minister invited all political parties to form a government.The government is awaiting response from all political parties regarding this invitation. The plan for an all-party government will move ahead depending on the responses given by those political parties,” sources added.According to our sources A.L.M. Athaullah, Jeevan Thondaman and his Party members and John Seneviratne were among the MPs who participated in the meeting. MP Dallus Alahapperuma has notified his absence due to illness. MP Wimal Weerawansa had informed that there isa meeting between his party members and he will notify their decision after that. MP Vasudeva Nanayakkara did not attend the meeting, sources said.
