Prison escapee hiding in forest arrested

The Police have arrested the suspect, who escaped the prison cell on last Friday (20) with the handcuffs while hiding in a forest area behind his residence. He escaped like this while he was kept in the prison for possessing 1,500 millilitres of illegal liquor, cider.

A senior Police officer said that the suspect was caught while hiding in a small tent during a search involving 60 Police officers including an additional Police team brought from the Neluwa Police.

The arrested person is a 26-year-old resident of Panvilahena Post.

On Friday (20) morning, he told the officers on duty that he needed to go to the toilet. Accordingly, the Police say that when a Police Constable took him out of the cell, the suspect ran away with the handcuffs. The Police also revealed that last week, he had assaulted the parents after drinking alcohol and damaged the property of the house. When the Police went to investigate a complaint in this regard, the suspect was arrested with the cider. Investigations have also revealed that he distributes cider.

Investigations have revealed that the suspect had threatened the parents and got food and drinks.

The suspect said to the Police that he tried to unlock the handcuffs but failed, so he hid with the handcuffs.

The suspect was to be produced in Court.
