Prison official arrested over alleged Rs. 1.23 million bribe

The Assistant Superintendent of the Trincomalee Remand Prison has been arrested by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) over an alleged bribe of Rs. 1.235 million.

According to the allegations, the prison official had solicited the bribe from a supplier providing dry-food items for inmates at the prison.

The Bribery Commission arrested the Assistant Superintendent for allegedly soliciting and accepting the Rs. 1,235,000 payment through a prison guard.

Further investigations are underway into the alleged transaction. (Newswire)
