A prisoner, who was arrested on assault charges, hanged himself inside a cell in Negombo prison.
Negombo Police said that the deceased person was a resident of Mahawewa, Koswadiya.
The Police said that this person committed suicide on Saturday (21) night. The Police had arrested him on assault charges and sent to Negombo prison after producing him before the Court.
A senior Police officer said that investigations have revealed that because this suspect acted violently in the prison cell, he was kept at a different cell. Negombo Police said that the reason behind this suicide is not yet been revealed.
