An inmate of the Agunakolapelessa prison who was hospitalized with injuries after being assaulted by another inmate died yesterday, Police said.
Police say that the postmortem has also revealed that he succumbed to injuries sustained during the assault by the other prisoner.
The prison authorities said the incident took place in a ward of the prison where mentally ill suspects were housed.
The deceased has been identified as 40-year-old Upul Shantha, a resident of Middeniya. Police investigations are ongoing.
