The Department of Prisons has launched a special investigation into a clash between alleged organised crime figures Nadun Chinthaka Wickremeratne, alias “Harak Kata”, and Mandinu Padmasiri, alias “Kehelbaddara Padme”, at the Welisara Prison.
According to reports, the Department of Prisons said an Assistant Superintendent of Prisons has been appointed to conduct an inquiry into the incident and submit findings on the circumstances surrounding the confrontation.
The clash reportedly occurred last night (22) while both inmates were being held at the Welisara Prison.
During the altercation, Kehelbaddara Padme sustained injuries and was subsequently admitted to hospital for treatment.
Prison authorities said that he is currently receiving treatment at the Welisara Prison Hospital.
The Department of Prisons said investigations are continuing into the incident. (Newswire)
