The Narahenpita Police has started an investigation regarding the disappearance of lot of gold items worth Rs.2 million from the police hospital in Narahenpita belonged to a Senior Superintendent of Police who is an eye surgeon.
Last Friday (26) she complained to the Narahenpita Police that these items were missing from a table drawer in the doctor’s room in the police hospital between May 25 and 26. The doctor is a resident of Polhengoda. Police say that it is not yet clear who has committed this theft.
However, investigations have revealed that only a woman Sergeant working at the police hospital, her police driver and two maids from a private company cleaning the hospital had come to her room during the theft. The police have already taken steps to get the fingerprints of all four and compare them with the fingerprints mentioned in the desk drawer.
The police say that some suspicion has been raised about a janitor residing in Anuradhapura.
A senior police officer said that investigations will be conducted with special attention to it.
