Prof’s house robbed by man he sheltered, flees with cash, jewellery

A person who was staying at the home of a retired professor at Saliyapura, Anuradhapura and receiving treatment for a skin rash has fled after stealing money and gold jewellery worth two million rupees from the professor’s house.

The Anuradhapura Police stated that this theft took place on the June 30. Police say that the professor took pity on the skin rash patient he met at the medical center of a local doctor in Anuradhapura and gave accommodation at his home and provided facilities for him to receive treatment.

The police say that this person, who was with the professor for two months, stole Rs. 1.5 million and a ring worth about 500,000 rupees which was left in a cupboard in the professor’s house.

The professor has told the police that he does not know much personal details about the person.

The police are investigating.
