Buddhi Prabodha Karunaratne, a prominent figure in the ‘Aragalaya’ has committed suicide in the boarding room at Himbutana where he was staying.
The Mulleriyawa Police, who are investigating the death, say that he was also taking treatment for some mental illness.
An open verdict was delivered at the post-mortem and body parts were sent to the Government Analyst. His funeral was held at the Godigamuwa cemetery in Maharagama yesterday.
According to the police, investigations Buddhi Prabodha Karunaratne, who claims to be a photographer, has been receiving treatment for depression since his school days. Police have also received information about his attempts to kill himself on two previous occasions. Karunaratne had left a message on the internet to his friends regarding his intention to end his life and the friends who were worried about it informed the police about this and came to the boarding room at Himbutana and had opened the door and had taken him to the Mulleriyawa hospital. The police are investigating.
