Inland Revenue (IRD) Commissioner General Sepalika Chandrasekara says some racketeers are posing as officers of the Inland Revenue Department and collecting money from businessmen.
The Inland Revenue Department has received information and complaints that certain individuals and groups in Colombo City, Panadura and other areas close to Colombo are carrying out this fraudulent act claiming to be Inland Revenue Department officials.
The Commissioner General also mentioned that she has complained to the Police regarding such complaints.She said that the department informs taxpayers about any tax levied by her department in writing.
