Several spells of showers will occur in the Western, Sabaragamuwa and North-western provinces and in the Galle, Matara, Kandy and Nuwara Eliya districts today (16).
According to the Department of Meteorology, showers or thundershowers may occur at a few places in the Uva and Eastern provinces and in the Mullaitivu district after 2.00 p.m.
Fairly strong winds about 30-40 kmph can be expected at times over the Western slopes of the central hills, Southern and North-central provinces and in Trincomalee district.
The public is requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damage caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.

Winds will be south-westerly. Wind speed will be 30-40 kmph. Wind speed can increase up to 50-60 kmph at times in the sea areas off the coast extending from Galle to Pottuvil via Hambantota.
