The Department of Meteorology has warned of heavy rainfall exceeding 100 mm in several parts of Sri Lanka on Friday (October 23), despite the low-pressure system moving westward away from the island.
According to the weather forecast issued at 2 p.m. on Thursday (22), the influence of the low-pressure system is expected to persist on Friday.
Showers or thundershowers are forecast at times in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, Northern and North-western provinces, as well as the Anuradhapura and Galle districts, with rainfall exceeding 100 mm likely in some areas.
Elsewhere, showers or thundershowers are expected after 1 p.m., with fairly heavy rainfall exceeding 75 mm possible in some locations.
The department has urged the public to take precautions against temporary strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
Misty conditions are also expected in parts of the Central and Uva provinces during the early morning hours (Newswire)
