National People’s Power (NPP) Presidential Candidate Anura Kumara Dissanayake alleges that there are discussions between the second tiers of Ranil Wickremesinghe and Sajith Premadasa’s parties to prevent the NPP from coming into power.
Addressing a rally in Homagama on Sunday (1), he stressed that the discussions are focused on the possibility of working together to reverse the gains made by the NPP ahead of the election.
He added, “However, the majority of Sri Lankans have already decided to elect me to the office of President at the forthcoming election and it’s too late for a team-up.
Dissanayake further stated, “The Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) has splintered into several camps. Some of them are with Ranil Wickremesinghe, while the others have sided with Sajith Premadasa. Also, there are a number of SLPP members who support Namal Rajapaksa as well.”
“While Thilanga Sumathipala and Arjuna Ranatunga are berating each other, both of them are seen on Sajith Premadasa’s stage. Also, Patali Champika Ranawaka and Rishad Bathiudeen were seen on the SJB’s stages.”
“From the beginning of their election campaign, they criticised the NPP. They never imagined that a situation such as this would arise.”
“Even though on the outside it looks like a conflict between Ranil Wickremesinghe and Sajith Premadasa, the second tiers of the two camps are engaged in discussions to keep the NPP at bay. They’re claiming, ‘We should stop being divided and strive to work together to take action to prevent the NPP’s triumph’. However, it’s too late for a team-up now,” Dissanayake added.
