Registration mandatory for Vesak dansals: notice from PHIs

Public Health Inspectors (PHIs) have urged organisers of Vesak dansals to register their events and adhere to health guidelines, as preparations begin for islandwide observances.

The Public Health Inspectors’ Union said registration of dansals has already commenced, with organisers required to inform the PHI of their respective area and provide details of the location and nature of the event.

Union President K.P. Boralessa said organisers will be guided on maintaining hygiene and food safety standards.

“Before the dansal is held, PHIs will inspect whether the location is suitable, including waste disposal, water quality and cooking conditions,” he said.

He warned that legal action will be taken against those conducting unregistered or unhygienic dansals.

“PHIs will inspect venues ahead of the events, including sanitation facilities, waste disposal arrangements, water quality and cooking conditions”, he said.

Food handlers and those involved in preparation will also be subject to checks to ensure public safety.

Organisers were advised to use only safe and hygienic ingredients when preparing food for distribution, he added. (Newswire)
