Rehansa Thisumli of Holy Family Convent (HFC) Kurunegala was adjudged the Best Player of the Milo All Island Schools Netball Championship concluded last week at Wennappuwa.
HFC Kurunegala under 13 ’A’ team led by Imasha Sathsarani overcame Maliyadeva Balika in the final by 19/6. “This is a good start by young Familians. We had two under 13 teams ‘A’ and ‘B’ while ‘the A’ team won the championship in a grand style, said trainer Ananda Wannitilleka.
“One opponent team made a protest against HFC and they said we used players out of the team card to win the game. As we had two teams our ‘B’ team went to the recorder’s table when the organizers called the teams. As it was one of our ‘A’ team’s match we had to call our A team from their residence (outside the stadium). Finally, we won the match,” said coach and trainer Ananada Wannitillka. Only our under 13 ‘B’ team did not win a title but our under 19, 17, 15, and 13 ‘A’ teams won titles to emerge overall champions.
