Agbo the tusker who has recovered from the fatal injuries it suffered a few months ago has begun roaming around the surrounding villages seeking food and causing damage to villagers’ houses and crops in their gardens.
Tusker Agbo after suffering serious injuries on its front leg was treated by Wildlife Department surgeons for more than four months, who performed several surgeries in order to save the elephant’s life.
According to local villagers who are affected by the tusker’s activities, Agbo who is on the road to full recovery has started roaming in the nearby villages in search of food travelling about ten kilometers during the night times when the village people are sleeping.
The affected villagers by Agbo’s night time activities voiced their concern over the damaging and destroying of several houses, crops and gardens in the Tirappane area as well as their fear of possible danger to their lives from the tusker that they have to live with constantly.
The villagers pointed out that Agbo’s life is at great risk if the elephant continues to roam into the villages at nights and immediate steps should be taken by relevant authorities to save the villagers’ lives that are in danger, their crops and gardens and the life of Agbo.
