The body of Sri Lankan national Anula Rathnayake (Jayathilake) who was killed during the Hamas-Israel conflict from an attack launched by the Palestinian militant group Hamas in Israel has been identified by her relatives at Petah Tikva in Israel, according to Sri Lanka’s Ambassador in Israel Nimal Bandara.
A decision was taken on Sunday (22), to conduct a DNA test in order to confirm the identity of the body of Anula Rathnayake who worked as a Sri Lankan caregiver in Israel who went missing and later confirmed dead on October 17 by the International Division of the Israeli Police, according to statement made by Sri Lanka’s Ambassador to Israel Nimal Bandara.
Accordingly, the relevant DNA test was to be carried out with the samples obtained from her two children and the sister while it had been requested to send the relevant DNA samples to Israel.
Two Sri Lankan women in Israel were initially reported missing amidst the violence that erupted between Israel and Palestine.
One of the two missing Sri Lankan women, Anula Jayathilake, was later confirmed dead by the Israeli authorities.Her remains were later received by the Sri Lankan Embassy in Tel Aviv after a few days.
