“Justice has not been served for Lasantha”
Parliamentarian Ravi Karunanayake yesterday stated that justice has not been served for the assassination of journalist Lasantha Wickrematunge, even under the Government of former President Ranil Wickremesinghe. He said that actions should have been taken when they had the power.
He believed that the current Government will take steps to bring justice and uncover the hidden hand that seems to be hindering the investigation.
Karunanayake made these remarks after participating in the 16th commemoration of slain journalist Lasantha Wickrematunge yesterday (08) at his gravesite in the Borella Cemetery.
Karunanayake expressed his disappointment that those responsible for the assassination have not been punished, and justice has not been served. He noted that four Governments have come and gone since the assassination, yet the investigation remains stalled. Parliamentarian Dr. Harsha de Silva also spoke at the commemoration emphasising that even after 16 years, the perpetrators of Lasantha’s murder have not been identified. He urged every Government to find and punish those responsible.
The event was attended by Lasantha Wickrematunge’s family and friends, as well as Members of Parliament Ravi Karunanayake, Rauff Hakeem and Eran Wickramaratne.
