The Mahabage Police have launched an extensive investigation regarding a burglary at a house in Hallanduwa in Ragama, where a retired Supreme Court Judge was living, in spite of two police officers providing security. The retired Supreme Court Judge had left for Ginigathhena on March 9 at about 6 am with his wife, to attend an alms-giving.
The Judge had returned home with his wife day before yesterday (11). It was only after the judge entered the house on his return that he discovered that in spite of two police officers being on duty during the time they were away from home, the house had been broken into by a thief.
A thief had removed the iron grill in the kitchen window and stolen two bottles of whiskey from a bedroom and cash which had been in the portico of the sitting rooms of the house. Mahabage Police had been informed about the theft by a sergeant who was one of the two police officers providing security to the house on March 11.
It is doubtful whether the two police officers had actually been guarding the house or not. A high ranking police official also said that an investigation is currently underway regarding this.
