Mass Media Ministry Secretary Anusha Palpita said that the minimum price of a postage stamp will be raised to 100 rupees to reduce the loss that the Postal Department incurs annually.
Palpita also stated that the Postal Department lost Rs.7 billion annually in the last seven years and after a discussion with the Postmaster General and on the advice of the Transport, Highways and Mass Media Minister, Dr. Bandula Gunawardhana, he submitted a proposal for the approval of the Finance Ministry to increase the postage stamp price to 100 rupees.
The Secretary said that the price of the postage stamp will be increased as soon as the approval is received.
He also said that by increasing the current price of 50 rupees to 100 rupees for a stamp used for mailing a letter, it will be possible to reduce the loss of the Postal Department.
