Risk of measles spread among children – Specialist

Dr. Deepal Perera, a specialist at the Lady Ridgeway Children’s Hospital in Colombo stated yesterday (10) that there is a risk of measles spreading among children.

He said that four patients confirmed to be having measles and 12 children suspected to be having measles have been admitted to the hospital and the samples of the patients suspected to be measles have been sent to the Medical Research Institute for further analysis.

He also said that the 16 children being treated at the children’s hospital have not received the measles immunization vaccine.

He said that if a child has not been given the measles vaccine, the disease can be prevented by giving the vaccine. If the child is affected by the disease and does not receive proper treatment, the child’s life may be at risk.

He said that the appearance of red spots on the body along with fever is a symptom of measles and if a child develops such symptoms, parents should seek treatment from a qualified doctor.
