Rooftops of religious shrines across country being installed with solar panel systems

The Ministry of Energy has initiated a project to install solar panel systems on rooftops of religious shrines across the country with the financial support of Government of India.

With the guidance of the Ministry of Energy, which is moving towards a people-centric energy transition with the dawn of a new renaissance era, and with the financial support of the Government of India of USD 17 million, the Ceylon Electricity Board, Sustainable Energy Authority and Lanka Electricity Company have jointly launched this solar power project to be installed on the rooftops of religious shrines spread across the Island.

Marking another step in this Island wide vast energy project; The installation of five kilowatt (5 kW) solar panel sets already distributed to four religious shrines, were also done recently by project companies – Premier Energies Limited and Access Solar Pvt., Limited.

Progress of the project as of November 8 indicates that 976 solar panel sets have been installed and the number of solar panels delivered is 2,672 and the number of solar panel sets imported to the country is 3,500.
