Rs.1,000 Mn to be distributed as fertilizer subsidy to farmers

Agriculture and Plantation Industries Minister Mahinda Amaraweera said the first installment of Rs.1,000 million to be distributed as the

fertilizer subsidy to farmers for the upcoming Maha Season has been released by the Finance Ministry. The amount has been given by the President as the Finance Minister and the total amount expected to be spent by the government to provide the fertilizer subsidy is Rs.12,000 million. According to this, arrangements have been made to credit the money to accounts at the

rate of Rs.15,000 per hectare and Rs.30,000 per two hectares, Minister Amaraweera said. Minister Amaraweera emphasized that by using this money, farmers can buy either organic

fertilizers or chemical fertilizers they need from the private sector or the public sector. Fertilizers supplied by the public sector have already been sent to all agri-service centers.

Minister Mahinda Amaraweera said he has already given instructions to the Commissioner General for Agriservices Development to credit the relevant money to farmers’ accounts immediately after confirming that they have cultivated paddy.
